Christmas Festivities

Wow, what a whirlwind this last month of 2006 has been. Our family has enjoyed so many holiday traditions. Here is a little taste as to what we have been up to.

Brian's Orchestra played for the annual Christmas tree lighting for a neighboring town. The kids went with Tutu and I to see them play. Dudu and Gigi joined us to share in the excitement. Santa arrived on a fire truck and Noah and Camden were number 3 & 4 in line to sit on his lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Noah asked for a remote-controlled dinosaur and Camden asked for a hot air balloon.

We celebrated as a family at our Church's first annual family Christmas party. We again got to see Santa and the wish list didn't change. Camden did however add the Little Mermaid to his request. The adults had fun playing a "get-to-know" you game while the kids reveled in their activities and games just for them.

The celebration continued with a Birthday party for Jesus at church on Sunday morning. Complete with cupcakes and gifts to present to baby Jesus.

This time of year would not be complete without ventuing out to see Christmas lights. We went to two different neighborhoods this year. Noah was so much fun to listen to as we drove around. "Mommy, this is the best Christmas ever" or "Wow, look at all those lights" or "Look over here, look over there", it never stopped. An hour and half later he was still going strong and just as excited as ever. We stopped at a house we visisted last year to ride a train that the homeowner had assembled in his back yard. Noah remembered this house from last year and was just beside himself to visit again this year. Camden also enjoyed it, being a little older this year I am sure he will remember it also next year.
My grandparents arrived and the activities continued. Cookie baking was in full swing. Christmas is just not complete without having grandma's cookies. Mark, Tiffany, Brian and I joined the kids in icing the cut-out cookies. Wow, that was fun...the creativity just overwhelmed me...well, maybe not! Just kidding! Last minute shopping was done, all the wrapping was done and we were ready for Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

After a wonderful morning at church singing all my favorite carols, we headed over to Dudu and Gigi's house to celebrate with Brian's family. We enjoyed good food and had a great time watching the kids open their gifts. Next we headed over to Brian's Great Aunt's house for more fun with cousins. I look forward to this event every year. About 30 of us celebrated with even more food, presents and good fun. We got home late, put out milk, cookies and reindeer food and went to bed.

Christmas morning came early at around 7 a.m. The kids were so excited to see what Santa had brought them. We opened gifts after singing "Happy Birthday" to baby Jesus. I think this is wonderful tradition that Noah suggested. The kids got most of what they were expecting and a few suprises as well.

We drove over to my parents around 10, just in time to open a few more presents and have a wonderful turkey dinner. After lunch, there were more gifts to open and then much needed naps to take. It was a wonderful way to wrap up the Christmas season being with family.

"O" as in "Oh NO!!!"

We have been out to eat twice in the last 6 weeks and both have ended badly. The two common denomiators with these restaurants is that they both start with the letter "O" and Camden.

The first adventure started when we were eating and Camden informed me that he was "making a bad decision". "What would that be?", I asked. "I'm going potty in my pull-up", says Camden. Not a big deal right? Well, it wouldn't have been if he didn't just poop and have it run up his back and down his legs. It gets better... I don't have the diaper bag!!! So, Brian takes him to the car and cleans him up with napkins from the bar and we head home with a naked child in the back seat. We vowed NEVER to leave home without the diaper bag again!!!

The second adventure happened today when we got up to leave from lunch. You guessed it, Camden repeated the same incident in his pull up. Only this time it is also on the restaurant high-chair as well. We clean him best we can at the table with all the wipes that we had. Brian then takes him to the men's restroom to disrobe him and clean him with paper towels. After requesting two large bags from the restaurant to hold all the unthinkables, Camden comes out sporting a pull-up and winter coat.

So, what is the moral to the story. I don't know! You can't possible have enough diapers or wipes to make either of these stories have happy endings. All you can do about it is laugh.

Letters to Santa

Yesterday was an exciting day at our house. The kids wrote and mailed their letters to Santa Claus. Camden pretty much just colored all over his paper and the kitchen table but had lots of fun doing so. When asked what he wanted for Christmas, his response was "balloons". Well, O.K.

Noah wrote his letter by himself and asked for:

A remote controlled train
A remote controlled dinosaur
Diego's Rescue center

then he had Mommy write the rest:

Electric racetrac
pages 1-25 of the Toys R Us catalog... you get the picture.

So, the wait is on for the big man in the red suit to arrive. Camden asks every night before bed if Santa is coming tomorrow. I can't wait to tell him "Yes!"

Thanksgiving, cross-dressing & that Christmas feeling

Yes, we are still here. Just a little bit busy this time of year.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We drove to East Texas and spent three days at Duane and Peggy's lake house. The kids had a blast. Camden alternated between sitting on the tractor or going for a ride on the four wheeler. Noah equally enjoyed both of those but also had lots of fun with a "treasure finder" a.k.a. metal dectector. He just thought he was in high cotton when he found pencils and metal and all kinds of cool stuff buried in the dirt. Gracie went along for the ride this year. That is a blog in itself. Gracie and car riding don't go together very well. She HAS to sit in the front seat and that just wasn't happening this time. She managed to stuff herself between the kids carseats with her hiney sitting on the back seat, her front feet sitting on the floor of the back seat and her head up between Brian and I in the front seat. Once we got out of the car she had just as much fun as the kids exploring all the smells of wild animals in the country.

About the cross-dressing, this is what I found when I stepped out of the shower yesterday:

Camden, just loves to wear everyone's shoes. He just added a little sequin handbag to the ensemble yesterday!

I have been very busy volunteering at church and loving it! Last friday night, the culmination of lots of prayer and hard work came together when we launched the first ever Kid's Korner at Dickensfest. It was a huge success with so many people from the community coming into the church and participating. Now that it is behind me, I am starting to get ready for Christmas.

Noah has been asking to put the Christmas decorations up for about a week. I explained that it would be about a week before we could get to it. Well, one day last week I got out 2 decorations and he was just so excited. That night he asked is he could talk to god. So, he began praying and this is what he said:

"Thank you God that mommy found 2 Christmas decorations, please help her find the rest of them soon. Amen"

That night Brian and I got the decorations out of the attic and we were startled to see that we had just shoved the tree intact up into the attic. So, we pulled it down and put it in the living room. The next morining when Noah woke up he walked into the living room and said "Unbelievable!" His prayer had been answered.

Brian's mom and Ross are here visiting this week. It is always wonderful to spend time them.

Noah's big day

Today my baby is 5 years old. Wow, where has the time gone? It feels like yesterday I was laying in the hospital for 4 days waiting to welcome him into this world.

Dear Noah,

I am so thankful that God has blessed me with the opportunity to be your mother. Since your birth, you have brought unending joy into so many people's lives. It has been so much fun to watch you grow and mature into the big boy that you are. You have such a compassionate heart for your friends and family. I love that you are always thinking of other peoples feelings first. Your love of learning keeps me in awe. Your mind is like a sponge soaking in everything around you and then at a drop of hat, pulling that knowledge out and using it.

Noah, you are a great big brother to Camden and I am so proud that you are my son. May all your wishes come true today. Happy 5th Birthday to my little "pumpkin eater". I love you.

Love,
Mommy

Noah and his friends went bumper bowling today for his birthday. They all had such a great time. It was too cute to watch them huddle around the ball return, very possessive of every ball. Daddy made a Lightning McQueen and TowMater cake, complete with mud tracks behind TowMater and Lightning's number in sprinkles. After opening presents and playing a few video games, we headed home and crashed. Here are a few pics. from the day.

This picture cracks me up! While Noah was opening his presents, Camden was confiscating them behind his back!

Opening a present from Tutu and Ross!

Bowling with friends from school.

Daddy's cake creation.

Happy Birthday, Noah!

My little Turkey

Isn't he just the cutest little turkey you've every seen?

One year ago today, on November 17, 2005 we were introduced to ECI (speech therapist). A year later on November 17, 2006, Camden has been released from speech.

We have had many challenges over the last year with Camden's speech. We faced each challenge head on and I am so proud of how far he has come. When we first started speech he was 19 months old and was talking on the same level as a 9-12 month old child. Today, Camden is 30 months old and he is talking on the level of a 34 month old. We were also told that he is "smart as a whip" and ahead of his peers in intellect as well. Since he is now able to communicate and be understood, he is truly a happier child! We are so proud of you Camden!!!

We have had a busy week. Thursday, Brian was able to join me at the boys pre-school for their Thanksgiving dinner. The teachers made the turkey and the parents each brought a side and about 100 parents and kids sat down and had dinner. It was wonderful!

Friday, Noah celebrated his 5th birthday at school. He brought cupcakes and juice boxes and we all sang Happy Birthday and ate!!!

Tomorrow is the big day. I can't believe Noah will be 5! We are all ready to go bumper bowling and have a big time. I will post more on this later.

Congratulations, Mark & Tiffany!

I am bursting with pride to announce the engagement of my brother Mark to his fiance, Tiffany. Their patience and obedience to God has brought them together and we couldn't be happier for the two of them.

Mark and Tiffany make a wonderful team together. Along with their love for God, they share a passion for kids that includes the youth at their church. They enjoy running together and never turn down an opportunity to socialize with friends and family.

A spring wedding is being planned. I will keep everyone posted in the coming months.

Congratulation, Mark & Tiffany! We love you!!!

Dinner is served!

This is one of "those moments" that happened today. This picture doesn't really do the damage justice. Spagetti-0's were on the wall, floor, table, 2 chairs, window, window-sill and the plant in the corner (not pictured). This is one moment I wish everything in my kitchen wasn't white. Not really sure what happened... dinner was going great until I turned my back. I won't mention which child it was, but you can probably guess!

Just go on and help yourself to a little bit of candy!

I couldn't resist this one last picture from Halloween. I didn't notice until today what Gracie (the dog) is doing in the picture.

Feeling better and looking ahead.

Tuesday brought back our routine. The kids both went to school and I returned to work. Noah is finally over his virus and Camden is so much better but still has a lingering cough. As it would happen, I don't feel that great. My ultrasound came back clear and now I am waiting to see if I need to have a lower bowel series done.

___________________________

I can't believe Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Next week the kids have a Thanksgiving dinner at school and then we have the real thing a week later! I have some wonderful memories growing up of all getting together at my grandparents house and having a wonderful turkey dinner. Of course, I had to sit at the kids table but it didn't matter we were all together. After dinner, most of us would fall asleep in front of the t.v. watching "the football" game of choice. Not much has changed from when I was little. I still look forward getting together with relatives and just spending the day together.

What are your favorite memories or traditions on Thanksgiving?

Monday morning news

Noah is on his way to recovery. He still has a lingering cough that will go away with time.

Camden, I am happy to say has been fever free since Saturday. However, his sinuses are very congested and now he has the nasty cough. He feels pretty yucky as evidenced by his lack of eating and not torturing his brother. He would rather lay on the couch or look at a book.

I had an ultrasound this morning and am waiting for the doctor to call with the results.

Not much else to report here. We are happy for the rain we had last night and this morning. I am also looking forward to getting out this evening and being with other adults at book club. I need some "me" time.

Updates

Thursday was just plain bad. Enough said.

Friday... Camden seems to be keeping his fever around 101 at the most. He has actually been running and playing. He still is not eating much and stops and lays down quite often. He is currently down for a nap. He has awaken the last two days from his nap with a fever of at least 103. I pray today will be different.

Noah is a mystery. No fever, no outward signs of being sick except for his cough. So, we are just continuing breathing treatments.

I went to see a Gastro Dr. yesterday about my pain in my right abdomen. He actually felt a "pea-sized" begnin tumor in a fatty area. He said it wasn't anything to be concerned about. I am scheduled for an Ultrasound on Monday to take another look at my Gall bladder and Colon. After that, I will have a small bowel series done to explore my colon further. The CT scan would have picked up any tumors or cancers so no need to worry in that area. A colonoscopy is not necessary and I am also glad for that!!!

As if we don't already have enough on our plate with sick kids, Brian is working and we are also dog sitting this weekend. So, if you find the time today to say a prayer for our family we would be grateful.

Can we go back to October?

November has been ushered in at our house with high fevers and unstoppable coughing spells. Camden has been hovering around 102-104 all day and dipping down to 100-101 with Tylenol. A trip to the doctor brought no relief because he didn't have enough symptoms to warrant an antibiotic except for fever and tight chest.

Noah had been trying to catch a cold for about a week and it finally took hold of him last Friday night. We have had several all nighters in a row and the "cloud machine"a.k.a. nebulizer has been dusted off and is running non-stop between both kids.

Brian and I are keeping up the best we can between having little sleep and the anxiety that comes with having children sick. We are doing our best to stay healthy, but I am not optimistic that we will get through this without catching it ourselves.

Please keep us in your prayers.

Camden's class party

Camden had a great time at school today. He participated in a costume parade, made a spider hat and enjoyed yummy treats at his class Halloween party. He is just the cutest map I have ever seen!

For the last 2 or 3? years, Noah has been sick for Halloween. This year is no different. He did dress up in his costume and went with me to see his friends in the parade. He came home with a goody bag full of treats and noise makers. The doctor said he is good to go for Trick or Treating this year. We will just be taking it easy and not overdoing it. Your prayers that he will kick this cold would be appreciated. We are trying a new medication and hope it does the trick.

Happy Halloween!

One for the win column

I don't know about you, but I dislike dealing with insurance companies. I have been wading through large stacks of bills over the past year from our many visits to the E.R. and follow-ups there after.

One particular bill caught my attention this week because it was in error. A month ago I received a bill requesting our insurance info. No big deal, I called and gave them the info. They submitted it to insurance and I received a bill for my portion this week. Except, that one line item description had been subtly changed and the price increased by $350.00. All the typical thoughts went through my head..."this is wrong!"..."if I hadn't of caught this they would of gotten away with more money in their pocket"..."this has to be corrected, but it will be like pulling teeth", etc. The phone calls and faxes were made and I waited. I received a call today explaining the discrepency and in typical fashion the error was made initially and should have been for the increased charge all along. I questioned the definition of the code charged and casually mentioned that I happened to be in the room when the procedure they were talking about occurred.

I waited for another phone call.

To make a long story short...just as mysteriously as the original bill had been changed, my current incorrect bill was also changed back to the correct amount. Of course, they will not assume any responsibility for being at fault. However, I think their action speaks volumes.

Costumes

We had a great time today at our church's Trunk or Treat. We had an entry titled "Make a Joyful Noise Unto the Lord". The kids could play different instruments, with the favorite being the cymbals. Note to self: next year...take earplugs.

All the kids looked so cute in their costumes. Noah was Diego and most people didn't recognize him with his wig on. People would come up to him and say "oh, you are Diego", and in typical Noah fashion he would say "well actually, I am Noah". I was so excited to put his costume together for under $20.

Everyone that approached Camden said "you are so adorable...what are you?" Camden was the Map from Dora the Explorer and he was very cute. He wore his hat all evening and that is truly a feat for a two year old.

Both kids enjoyed playing the games and sliding down the bounce slide. I am looking forward to Halloween night.

The last picture sums up last week with the boys. Pirates, rough and tumble!

Thank goodness it's Wednesday!...or am I?

I am so glad that Tuesday is over. You see, it started out REALLY BAD!

We were on our way to school when Camden (who insisted on wearing "the real deal" underwear), had an accident. So, off to change him and as we (Noah, Camden and I) were walking back to the garage, Noah decided to challenge Camden to the door. Now, you have to understand something first. Camden HAS to be the one to open the door leading out into the garage. It just can't be open by anyone else. So, the race began and ended with Camden throwing his older brother down on the floor, laying on top of Noah and biting him. Then he hauled off and hit me on top of my head when I was bending down trying to explain his consequences. I am sure he learned "these moves" from watching that horrible soap opera, Monday night wrestling, with his father. (Brian and I are going to have a little chat!)

Anyway, mayhem insued. Chasing, screaming, crying, you name it, it was all happening between the three of us. At this point, we are late for school and so we all got in the car and off we went. Really, getting in the car was not that simple, Camden had to be physically retrained just to get his seat belt on. He then proceeded to scream at the top of his lungs the whole way to school. I repeatedly told him that if he wanted to go to school he was going to have to tell me and Noah he was "sorry". I'll tell you right now, there wasn't a hope or a prayer that that was going to happen!

We pull into the parking lot and I get out and unbuckle Camden. Noah was unbuckling himself while I walked around to the his side of the car and opened the door. Well, when I opened the door, Camden apparently wasn't finished with Noah, because Camden shoved Noah and both of them went flying out of the car into a heap in the parking lot. Camden again layed on Noah and bit him! All right, that's it... I am officialy really ticked off at him!!! I was trying to keep my composure as I took Noah to his class with Camden screaming bloodily! Camden eventually calmed down on the way home and apologized. He joined his friends at school later and had an uneventful day after that.

I mentioned that Camden is wearing "the real deal". Day 3, Wednesday, started off with him being naked. He had not made a "stinky" since Tues. morning and he was holding it until I put on his underwear. He will NOT go stinky in the potty. So, the deal was made that once he made stinky in the potty he could have his underwear back. He was pretty o.k. with this deal until the urge hit. I hear him yelling from the living room desperatly that he needs to go potty! I round the corner and ....yes, you guessed it, the stinky is in the middle of the living room! I hauled him off to the potty where yes, he did make another in the potty. The only part Camden rememebers is the one in the potty so of course now he wants his reward of Chuck E. Cheese. Excuse me, go look in the living room, little man!!! I don't think so!!!!!!!!!!

We are now on clothes set #3 for today...when does this get better?

a blog about a dog.

Noah would say "hey Mommy, that rhymes."
..........anyways...............

What has happened to Gracie?

Well, really I think I know the answer, the competiton has gone away. It's too bad that in her little dog mind, she never grasped that Whitney was never a threat.

She has CHANGED! Currently there is a 3/4 full bowl of dog food sitting there and she is curled up sleeping!

Bizarre.

Happy Birthday, Brian and Brenna!

Two of my favorite people in the world also happen to share a birthday today. The first being the love of my life... Brian. The other being my wonderful friend, Brenna. They share many of the same qualities. They are both very loving, caring, gentle-natured people. They each share a similar sense of humor and are both very artistic. Brian with his love of music and Brenna with her love of art. Both of them "think outside the box" and possess a higher level of thinking that leaves me in awe. They are honest and faithful friends alike. My life has been blessed knowing them.

I wish each of them a very Happy Birthday today. May God bless each of you.

Noah & Camden in October

October thru December has always been a very busy time for our family. This year is no exception. This week we are finishing up Halloween costumes and putting the finishing touches on our car's entry for our church's "Trunk or Treat that will be held next weekend. The box of fall decorations finally made it off it's temporary spot on the dryer and I am happy to report the decorations are out and it is starting to feel festive at our house. We will end the week with a big family celebration for Brian's 35th birthday.

Here are a few things that are going on with the kids at the moment:

Noah:

*When he describes anything it is always very detailed. For example, when he runs he is going "1,000 miles per hour" or another one is "I will do that in 98 minutes, Mommy". He likes the concept of time and numbers, but doesn't grasp how long they actually are.

*Mr. Social!!! He is friends with everyone and knows everything about them.

*He is currently very afraid of going anywhere by himself. This seems to be more of an issue with our house, since Whitney died.

*He loves to run and run fast.

*He is reading simple words from books.

*He adores his brother and can be a bit of a boss. He likes things to be his idea only. Although, when pointed out that other people have opinions he relents.

*The toys he plays with are still trains and cars. He really enjoys puzzles and games as well. He is very good at riding his bike.

*He still is not potty trained at night.

*Noah has become a really good eater, something I wasn't sure would ever happen.

*He is not afraid of roly-poly bugs or geckos.

Camden:

*He is currently the most strong-willed child I know. He has terrible tantrums that include screaming at the top of his lungs and jumping up and down for an hour at least. The only thing that calms him is if you can get him to say "yes" to any question. Then he thinks he has control.

*He has learned to ride a bicycle at the age of 2 1/2.

*He watches and imitates everything his brother does and says.

*He learns very quickly, I only having to repeat a new concept (shapes, colors, etc.) just a few times before he remembers.

*He still loves to be held.

*After laying down in bed, he kicks the wall and talks to himself LOUDLY before falling asleep an hour after going to bed.

*He has to pick out his own clothes.

*He has to sleep with his dirty shorts that he worn that day in bed with him.

*He still find comfort and security in his "blue" blanket.

*Mr. Independent!

*He is currently afraid of Moses, because he is loud.

Our reactions

I am pleased to say that our sadness is being replaced by warm memories.

Noah, Camden and Gracie (the other dog) have all had varied reactions to this situation.

Camden, at age two, appears to be taking it all in and processing it in his own way. He is very smart and I believe understands more of what went on then he can put into words. Here are some of his responses when asked during the week "where is Whitney?":

Monday: "sleeping"
Tuesday: "at the doctor's" or "at the hospital" {He knows when you are very sick or hurt that is where you go.}
Wednesday: "at Papa's house" {He saw where she was buried and now has some place concrete to place her.}
What makes me sad, is that he probably won't remember anything about her in another year.

Noah, at age four, has been a challenge. He is very bright and and has been full of hard questions from the beginning. We decided that no matter how difficult it was going to be, he was going to be told the truth. For some 4-year olds the truth is sugar-coated, with Noah he doesn't make that possible. One tough question is followed by another tough question and so on. He has asked if everyone dies, when do we die?, do we get buried in the ground?, do we die forever?, will we see Whitney again?, etc. I have done my best to answer the way I know how.

Noah has always had anxiety and it has been heightened since Sunday. He is very afraid to go anywhere in the house by himself. I know his fears stem from Whitney being gone and he is afraid that we will be gone also. We have tried to put those fears to rest but as with anything,I think it will take time and constant reassurance on our part.

Gracie, the dog, is so different since Sunday. I had big fears that she would freak out and openly mourn since she is the dependent dog. She has proved me wrong. She has become a more loving and calm dog. I think the jealosy factor has been taken away and she does not feel threatned. She seems to be trying to make sure that we are all o.k. with lots of kisses.

The only thing she seems to struggle with is going outside. Before, I would let them both out and Gracie would wait for Whittie and then they would both run out into the yard. Now, I let Gracie out and she just stands on the porch waiting...trying to figure out what to do next. She loves it when the kids go out with her, so we have spent lots of time outside this week.

Gracie was never the watch dog. We never thought she had it in her. Boy, were we wrong. She has been very protective and doing her duty to bark that "Big Bark" when she hears something. This is new to all of us, but we are enjoying this side of her.

Our week started out slow and painful but ended full of happiness and hope. We are grateful for your prayers.

She's such a sweetie.

I can't tell you how many times over the years that I have heard those words spoken about Whitney. Sweetie, was the right description for her and became one of many names we would call her. Wittie, Bugger, Bug, Whitney wooser, Wee Hoo Hoo, Sweet girl, and Wittie bug are just a few of her other names. Of course, she answered to all of them.

I am writing this post for the kids, but also for myself because I want to have something tangible for us to look back on when the memories aren't so clear anymore. You tell yourself that that day won't happen, but I am realistic and I know it will come. Reminicising over the last few days, I have realized how much I don't recall of the times when she was little. Please bear with me as I put my thoughts down. This will be a long post.

The last few days have been so hard for me. Whitney was my first baby and I have been so very overwhelmed with grief. It strikes when I least expect it, when I am alone in the car or the kids are down for a nap and of course when I am in the shower. Today, I vaccumed and succumbed to tears because I rememebered that every time after I vaccumed the floor she would lay down on her back and roll over the clean carpet. Noah was also upset that I vaccumed because then her hair would be gone and she would be gone also. My emotions are very raw and I am sure I won't make it through this post without crying.

A friend of ours, Ronald, brought Whitney to us in college when we were only kids ourselves. Brian was 20 and I was 19 and she was only 4 weeks old. She was named Whitney after Whitney Houston who was singing on the t.v. at the time. She slept next to me in the bed until the last two years when she couldn't jump up on the bed anymore. She used to love to curl up on the couch with her head on a pillow. She loved to lay down in our window box when we lived in an apartment soaking in the sunshine. She also loved to lay down in the back of my camaro and watch the traffic go by.

The first few weeks we had her, she would spend the time we were in class in her crate watching the religous channel. It was the only thing that would silence her insane barking! She would bark all day long! She was first put on our answering machine barking 14 years ago and has been on there ever since. If we ever needed her to bark, all you had to say was the word "puppy" and off she went barking. She was the cutest little ball of fur and her nick-name was "piggy puppy" because that is what she looked like.

We took her everywhere with us. We didn't realize that she probably wasn't supposed to go to everyone's house, we just assumed that she was one of us and she was going. It wasn't until Gracie came along that my parents gently told us that the dogs needed to stay home when we came to visit.

She loved to do the wild-run when she got excited. She would duck her butt down and run with her head up as fast as she could go. She loved to catch her "hoopy-loopy" toy, a tennis ball and she loved a good game of tug with daddy's socks. When Gracie arrived, Wittie was the alpha dog and we enjoyed watching the two of them play sock and Gracie submit when Wittie wanted her way. She enjoyed going on walks and liked to swim in the pond across the street from my parents house. She did not however like to swim in the swimming pool! She did love to lay on the top step of the pool and lounge like a queen.

Back to the barking... she barked at everything. She was never a very social animal with other dogs. She would bark and lunge and act like she was going to attack. Of course, it was all an act to "protect us". In 14 years, she never bit anyone. She barked at the garbage truck and people walking in front of the house. When cataracts covered her eyes, she would bark at any movement outside, the tree blowing or a car driving by. She always barked when the garage door when up to tell me Brian was home or someone had dropped by. The neighbors even called the police one night, because she was outside barking while I was inside vaccuming. I will miss her barking, she made me feel safe and protected. I never worried when she was in the house, because I knew she would take care of me. The last year, the barking diminished because of her eyes and her hearing wasn't so good. The kids and I could walk in the house and turn the t.v. on and she would be sound asleep. I would have to clap my hands to get her attention. Up until the day she died, I would clap my hands and she would slowly get up, struggling to balance herself , but obediently complying with my command. During that time, I longed for her to be more alert, but now I just long to have her here!

Brian and I only thought of Whitney's best interest and we knew all those years ago that we wanted to get into a house with a nice yard because she deserved it after living in so many different places. Some of the place she lived were in Huntsville, Houston, Willis, Huntsville again, Amarillo, Garland, Dallas and three different places in Plano, Tx. She always adjusted well after every move and started to relax once the boxes left the house.

This next part is a little gross, so skip it if you want to. Two memories that will stand out forever are the "fire-hose poop" and "throwing up worms". Every puppy has worms and Whitney decided to vomit live worms up when she was little. That was probably the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. The other incident was when she was trying to go to the bathroom one night, she was startled and she spun around and sprayed the entire side of the apartment building with runny poop. Brian and I couldn't not stop laughing to save our lives!

That brings me to eating. She was always a very independent dog and that holds true for her eating habits. She enjoyed eating her dinner ever night between 11:30 p.m and 3:00 a.m. This proved more difficult when Gracie came along and ate everything in sight. Whitney obediantly pushed her dinner time up to 10:30 p.m. so we could all get some sleep before midnight. Since July, it has been a labor of love cooking and feeding Whitney. She stopped eating not because she didn't want to but because the disease was making her nauseaus. First she stopped eating her dry dog food, we tried soft food, then she ate cooked chicken and toast, chicken broth, lunch meat, and then cooked hot dogs and finally raw hot dogs. It got to the point, that it didn't matter what it was as long as she ate. We knew it was the end when she couldn't eat or drink anything.

Whitney gave our family 14 wonderful years of unconditional love. Right up until the last few minutes of her life when her body failed her she was still being obedient. And then she went to sleep.

"Sweet dreams, baby girl...I will always love you."

After she died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Brian loving buried her under a Pecan tree on my parents land. She will never be physically far from us and her love and memories will stay in my heart forever.

Back to the Doctor and a pumpkin farm

Yes, I was back to the doctor again today. If you add it up that's 4 doctor visits in less than 2 weeks. Today was just a routine exam, however he did mention two different tests he could perform if the pain continues. Both tests are very painful and I am not looking forward to more pain, but if it would provide some answers, I am willing. So, the journey continues...

This week is fall break and we are enjoying having Brian home with us. This has allowed me to work three full days this week and given Brian some very valuable time with the boys. He had a very memorable 4 minutes with 4 kids the other night, and you should ask him about it sometime. There truly is never a dull moment in our house!

We spent today at the Owen's Big Orange Pumpkin Farm with some friends of ours. We had a memorable time feeding the Longhorn cows, sheeps and goats. We rode a hay ride and had lots of photo ops in the pumpkin patch. The kids each came home with their own pumpkin and can't wait until we carve them.

Tomorrow is back to work for me and more quality time spent with the boys for Brian. Gracie is off to have a tumor removed in her mouth and to have a much needed teeth cleaning. We are all looking forward to that!

You gotta love it!

Noah: (holding his hand out to me) "Mommy, I have a booboo"

Mommy: "How did you get your booboo?"

I lifts his hand to my mouth and as I am kissing the booboo...

Noah: "from the potty"

Mommy: very discretely wipes her mouth off while trying not to vomit.

Once there was 3, now there are 2...

Minnie the turtle has found a new home today at the Outdoor Learning Center. She began to hibernate and we just couldn't adequately accomodate her lifestyle so she is better off in her own habitat. The boys took it really well. It was a little heartbreaking today when Camden was reading a book and came across a picture of a turtle and labeled it "his pet, Minnie". They will take excellent care of her and nurse her broken shell back until she can be released to the wild. We didn't have Minnie very long and that is probably for the best, because we learned she is actually a HE! Wow, think of all the therapy he would of required when he found out he really wasn't a girl!

Gracie, our Lab, spent some time today in the vet's office. She was in the middle of a down and dirty game of wrestle with the boys when she got popped in the mouth. I discovered what appeared to be her tooth shoved up into her gums. Turns out, she has a common tumor on her gum that will go away on it's own. She is scheduled to have her teeth cleaned and we are all looking forward to that! She also has a fatty tumor on her belly that is common as well and nothing to worry about.

While at the vet's office, Brian got reassuring news that we are still doing the humane thing for Whittie. She is senile and finds herself in a corner quite often and can't get out. She is also having a hard time walking on the tile and falls over very easily. She is still eating and wanting to got outside and those are all good quality of life factors that the vet is happy to hear about. It is a struggle to see her go through this and lots of tears have been shed. She is just the sweetest dog and I don't want her to suffer for one minute!

Random News

It was a tough weekend for myself. After a CT scan, a sonogram and 2 different doctors, I still am in pain on my right side. It most likely was a ruptured cyst, however there is no visible evidence of such on the latest scan. My right side is clear and my left side now shows a small cyst. (I give up!!!) The pain I am still having could be from fluid that has caused irriation or from something else. I am stuck at this point as to what to do next.

Good news... my mom's kidney stone has been blasted and she will be feeling like her old self very quickly!!!

The boys are healthy and still enjoying school. Noah had his cast removed last Wednesday and after a few days of being cautious he is really starting to use his right hand again. I do believe if he had to wear the cast any longer, he would have been left handed. He adapted almost too easily to his left hand and still favors it.

Camden is doing better with his tanturms. He was rewarded at church last week for walking away and letting another child have a toy. For the most part he does very well sharing with his peers, he seems to have a problem sharing with his brother. All very normal and expected.

Noah has started early making a list for Santa and just about everything he passes in the store gets added to the list. I am currently searching for his Halloween costume and do not even want to think about Christmas at this point. Noah wants to be Diego and Camden is probably going to be the map from Dora for Halloween.

What are your kids going to dress up as? What was your favorite costume growing up?

Today was not boring...

After a day filled with lots of abdominal pain, nausea and just feeling bad. I will not echo Noah's sentiments of "today was boring". Today was filled with lots of feelings of anxiousness in between seeing the doctor, have blood work done and experiencing a CT scan for the first time. Am I any further along in a diagnosis than I was this morning... probably not. My internal organs have been given a clean bill of health on the outside but there is something wrong...very wrong and I want it fixed. Maybe I will have a clearer picture on Friday.

Please pray for my mom, myself and my friend Brooke.

What's New?

Here is what I have learned during the last week:

First, I wasn't aware until today that we have a budding Picasso (Camden) in our house. With this new fact comes the knowledge that windex will remove crayon from just about every surface of your home.

Second, I learned that when loading your groceries into the back of the car, make sure the milk and eggs are not near the door. Did you know that a gallon of milk takes more than one roll of papertowels to clean up? Your cleaning is not over after the papertowels either because then you have to mop the entire kitchen and garage floor because now it is sticky.

Third, we have a new pet in our house. It is a three-toed box turtle named Minnie. Not Minnie Mouse, but Minnie the turtle in case you were confused. (Noah, just wanted that clarified.) She was found in our yard and is fairly old. She appears to be a very active turtle and to the kids amusement she is out of her shell most of the time. She was supposed to be a temporary pet but of course the kids have fallen in love with her and now her fate is up in the air.

Fourth, the kids really are enjoying pre-school. Camden is still a bit shy at drop off but warms up quickly. He really likes playing trucks with "Michael" and going outside to play with Noah.

I am very impressed with Noah's teacher and the way she instructs her class. It appears he will be very prepared for Kindergarten next year. He is learning to "think outside the box". They are learning ways to solve problems without running to the teacher. Listening skills are being worked on as well as growing their attention span. These things will help with sitting in Kindergarten next year. She doesn't acknowledge whinning which has helped us since Noah seems to be in that stage currently. She also strongly encourages "higher learning" through the use of materials brought home and worked on with mom & dad. We are very blessed that God has provided the right teacher for both of the kids this year.

Fifth, We are in the middle of potty training with Camden. He is doing great wearing a pull-up and staying dry most of the day. We have experimented with underwear and it usually is a disaster. I have not found the right "incentive" that works for Camden yet.

Sixth, has anyone seen my fun-loving 2-year old? He seems to be missing. The terrible two's have arrived at our house, and it is not pleasant. There is a lot of jumping up and down, screaming, throwing toys and just down right being defiant going on at our house. I know this phase doesn't last forever, but one week has been long enough for everyone!!!

Mommy's...

My pastor sent a cute little email out listing children's respones to different questions asked. I decided to ask Noah the questions and here are his responses:

Why did God make Mother's?
"To take care of us"

How did God make Mother's?
"by using his strength"

What ingredients are Mother's made of?
"people and God"

Why did God give you your Mommy and not some other Mommy?
"because my mommy lives in my house"

What kind of little girl was your Mom?
"I don't know"

What did Mom need to know about Dad before she married him?
"If he knew how to get dressed"

Why did your Mom marry your Dad?
"It was a long time ago and I don't remember"

Who's the boss at your house?
"Mommy"

What's the difference between Mom's and Dad's?
"Daddy is a boy and Mommy is a girl"

What does your Mom do in her spare time?
"She does something... like work or something"

What would it take to make your Mom perfect?
"for her to get dressed"

If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?
"She would wear different clothes"

Enjoy!

A Birthday Gift

Most mom's would agree that we usually don't make time to do something for ourselves. So when I received a monetary birthday gift, I jumped at the chance to spend it on ME!

Today I fulfilled that gift and went with a good friend out to lunch and then met up with several other good friends to see a play called "Nipples to the Wind".

It was a laugh out loud funny play about many different women that you have either encountered or have been sometime in your life. The title of the play is a euphemism of "head up, chin out" and it was truly befitting every one of the characters.

Thank you Sharon, a.k.a, Tutu for a wonderful birthday gift! I enjoyed myself all day!

Just a couple of "God-things"

I'm suprised I haven't had some "blog fanatic" complain about my lack of posting recently. So, with out further adieu...

Last week was full of eye-opening experiences.

The first being that I started back to work 2 days a week for a couple of hours and was met with such hostility that it took until Friday to realize how much it overwhelmed me. I will not go into the gory details because they are not what is important. What is important is what I learned about myself in the process. It was made crystal clear to me how much I have grown in my faith of Jesus. My lack of attitude and positive reaction to a bad situation was eye opening at best. I confronted the situation with an open heart and asked God to give me the strength, words and provide the timing to do what he wants. I was obedient and felt good about myself at the end of the day. I have peace that God has provided this opportunity for me to be a witness but it will not be accomplished without pain. Pain that is so minor in comparison to what Jesus did for me on the crosss.

A side note: After my first bad day back, I picked Noah up from school and asked about his day. I asked if he went to chapel and he said "yes". I then asked what he learned and he said "Mommy, God is around us all the time". He was right. (Noah has never told me what he learns in chapel, this was the first time.) How perfect is his timing!

The second amazing thing that happened was also about being obedient. I faithfully have been praying about a situation and asking for guidance. Well, the Lord answered and provided in his timing what was best for this situation. Matthew 18:15-20 was played out right before my eyes, and that was powerful!

Those of you who know me, ecspecially those of you who knew me growing up know that being obedient doesn't come easy for me. This is a new wonderful feeling! Praise God!

How is Noah doing?

Great! After a visit to the Dr. today, we found out that his bones are 75-80% healed. It was really cool to see where new bone has already formed. He now has a cast that stops right below his elbow which allows him to move more freely. This cast is also water proof and we are actually encouraged to pour water down inside of it and get it wet. This is supposed to wash away the dead skin underneath. He will have this cast for 3 more weeks and then he should be all healed. He should not require any physical therapy when the cast is removed.

Sawing off the old cast was a little intimidating today. It was loud and scary having a saw blade that close to your arm. However, Noah took it in stride. I was asked if we wanted to keep the old cast and promptly said "NO". That thing stunk! Yuck!

Noah is only limited in he can't jump on a trampoline or climb a rock wall. All othe activities are good to go! That is such a blessing since our weather has taken a turn for the better and we will be outside much more than we have.

The second picture is of Camden wearing his "listening ears". He made these at school and I just thought he looked adorable.

Well, it's time I go mow the yard. When the kids were outside earlier, the grass was up to their knees.

I'm ready for the challenge!

I'm going to be brutally honest.

Yes, we were not thinking when we leased our Tahoe. All that went through our minds at the time was "this is an awesome car with every imaginable feature on it, let's buy it today!"

We never looked at what the future might hold for us... like 2 children and one income! To put it mildly we have struggled the last several years and are now looking forward to making the right financial decision for our family next spring.

Here is where the challenge comes in. We started checking out the terms of our lease when it expires and realized that if we kept driving the Tahoe we would be paying LOTS of money in overmileage fees. The way it stands right now, we can only drive 300 miles per month until the end of our lease in July. So, with a little help from my parents (they are allowing us to drive one their vehicles that also gets much better gas mileage) Brian is now driving the Tahoe to work everyday. Even if Brian drove everyday to work, it will still be necessary for me to take him to work 1 or 2 days a week so we don't go over the mileage. I have never been one to shy away from a challenge and this no different.

So far, we have come under the 300 miles for the month of August. Woohoo!!! Bring on September!

Another term of the lease is that all 4 tires have to be identical. I didn't think this would be any big deal until I went out and looked and low and behold we have 1 tire that is different from the other three. I was not looking forward to the cost associated with purchasing another tire. The Lord works in mysterious ways and this tire is no exception.

Brian came home from work one night last week with a flat tire. He came out of school and found there was a screw in his tire and it was flat. He happened to be parked next door to a Discount Tire but as luck would have it they were closed. The next day after finding out that this tire was covered by road hazard, Brian went and got another tire for the Tahoe. After we put it on, we realized we had not checked to see if it was the same as the rest of the tires. After checking we found that it did indeed match the others and this could have only been a "God-thing".

To God we give the glory!

IT's RAINING!!!

One of the things I look forward to after summer vacation is having a routine again in our daily lives. My kids just seem to handle life better when they know what to expect and so do I.

This past week marked the end of summer for us and the beginning of our fall routine. While the kids are back to pre-school, my life doesn't seem to slow down any. My week has been filled with driving my carpool two days a week and contemplating when and if I will start back to work at the office for a few days. I attended the bible study I am involved with on Fridays and I also have been reading my book for book club. I am so happy to be reading again after a long summer of nothing stimualting for my mind. I am also currently involved with two church committees that will keep me busy. Oh, did I mention I squeezed in cleaning a house and going to the gym 2-3 times a week?

So, that has been our week in a nutshell. I give thanks to the Lord who has provided faithfully to our family and who gives me strength in all that I do.

Well, how did it go?

The first day of pre-school was a success. Noah walked right in and started playing immediately. He is an old pro at this and was ready to get things started. He took his "arm" as show and tell today and had a good time telling everyone how he ended up in a cast. He makes friends very quickly and already had 5 girls chasing him around on the playground.

Camden walked right in and layed down on the ground with his hands over his eyes. This is what he does if he is embarrassed or shy. He was down for about two minutes and then was a bit clingy. However, that did not last long once he saw the train set. I checked on him a bit later and he was having a great time as well. He told me all about his day when I picked him up. He "played trains, ate my lunch, outside two times, and sang Twinkle Star". He was pretty worn out from his first day as evidenced by the three hour nap after we came home.

I was a bit sad dropping Camden off today. After all, it is my last baby to go to pre-school.

First Day of Pre-school

Today is the first of pre-school for Camden. Judging by the 5:00 a.m. wake-up, I am pretty sure they are both excited. They have both met their teachers and they seem to be a good fit for each of them. Camden is in a class of 6 with mostly girls. Should be interesting! Noah is in a class of 12 with mostly boys. One word... LOUD!

They are both so proud of their backpacks and lunch boxes. Here is the low-down: Noah is sporting an "Incredibles" back-pack with a "Cars" lunch box. Camden is sporting a "Cars" back-pack with a "Buzz Lightyear" lunchbox. Are you confused? I am!

I just love these pictures. It just sums up what a productive summer we had. Noah with his broken arm and Camden with his black-eye. It should be fun to compare to the end of the year photos. Well, it is about time to take them to school. I will update on their day later.

Finally, a picture!

Here is an early shot of Noah when he had his splint.

It's a special day!

Happy Birthday Dad!

I love you!

Injuries do occur in the public library!

I want to start by saying that I think all Wednesday's should be removed from our week. Good things do not happen to us on Wednesday's. Last Wed., Noah broke his wrist and this Wed. is no exception.

Now, back to the public library. Who gets injured in a library? The more I thought about it I realized they are a prime place waiting for disaster. What child or more specifically 'boy', can talk in a soft voice, not run and keep their hands to themselves? Not mine!!! When you combine the library with a Wednesday, you have a really bad situation for our family.

Camden is now sporting a lovely black & blue cheek and eye, after running as fast as he can straight into the corner of a table in the library. The impact was so great that it layed him out flat on his back. I am going to make a t-shirt that says: "No, my brother didn't do it!" Because when you see him next to Noah that is what you automatically think.

I am furious with the librarians. They will not be winning any compassion awards any time soon. They just stood there and never offered help. The look on their faces was of disgust that my child was screaming LOUDLY in a library. Well, I said a quick prayer for them and we were on our way. Thank heavens we already had a Dr.'s appt. lined up an hour later.

There is a good note for today. Camden had a speech evaluation today that was very positive. I was hoping this would be his last appt. however, it was determined he still needs some work on his "T's" and "F's". We are only meeting with his therapist once a month from now on. When Camden started speech 9 months ago, he was about 3 months behind. Today, I was told that he has caught up more than 12 months during this past 9 months. Yeah for Camden!!! He is even ahead of his peers in certain areas! We are so proud of you Camden!!!

A cool room, a cool Dr., a cool cast

Noah went to see the Orthopedic Bone Dr. today. Boy, does he talk fast!!!! It was hard to keep up. Learned lots of really interesting info. regarding kids and broken bones. Note to any moms out there: kids heal REALLY fast and bones don't have to be set perfect to heal perfect. Also, put a kid in a room where the examining table is literally a fire truck and they forget how much pain they are in when the Dr. is manipulating their broken bones!

All that to say that Noah is doing great. He is now the proud owner of a "blue cast" that he is considering having people sign. We return in 2 more weeks with another set of x-rays and hope that he has not done any further damage just by being a rambunctious 4 year old in that time.

We were given a warning to watch closely any siblings because the cast usually becomes a weapon in about a week. Great, just what we need... a trip to the E.R. for stitches on Camden! The positive if any to this is we met our insurance deductible for the year back in January!!!

Updates

Noah- As of Saturday, he is doing much better. He was pretty shocked for a couple of days and mostly watched t.v. and movies. All of which is totally expected. Saturday, he awoke to his usual spunky self and has been playing with toys, alienating his brother and even cooperating with wiggling his fingers. We see an Orthopedic Bone specialist on Tuesday, so please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Camden- Not much was mentioned about his reaction to all of this. The first couple of days he was understandably confused and scared. He lost his playmate, who also happened to be getting ALL the attention. Jealosy started to rear it's ugly head. He would pull the support pillow out from under Noah's arm or he would "bump" into Noah when no one was watching. He even told Brian that "he broke his arm and needed to go to the hospital to see the baseball man". (Every person in a uniform is a baseball man). It has to be very difficult to comprehend this situation at 2.

Whitney- Wow, since the last time I posted it has been an emotional roller coaster. About 2 weeks ago, I was certain that she had very little time left. She didn't eat for 4 days and was very weak. A call to the vet was placed and the "last possible option" was given to us. Well, I am glad to say that we did not use that option and she currently is doing very well. Don't ever underestimate the power of chicken soup. She started drinking chicken soup and it stimulated her appetite. She has been eating like a queen ever since. Homemade chicken thighs with rice or noodles, hamburger meat, eggs, etc. She has slowly gained her stamina and last night for the first time in weeks she actually ate her own dog food. Praise god! She is alert and happy to see us, and wants to be a part of the action. I know this is only short term because she does have cancer, but I will cherish every minute I have.

Brian- His start back to school has been eventful with a root canal and a trip to the E.R. with Noah. I hope this is not a pre-cursor to what is to come this year.

There truly is NEVER A DULL MOMENT IN OUR HOUSE!

"Today was boring"

Those are the words Noah spoke tonight. Today was anything but boring. It started off like any other day; breakfast, getting dressed, playing-

...and then it changed!

Noah and Camden were playing on the fort in our living room when Noah fell off and started to cry. Not the usual whine or the usual wail when he is really hurt, but a strange different cry. I was in the kitchen and did not see what had happened but knew instantly that something wasn't right. I walked in and found Noah laying on his stomach holding his arm. He said "Mommy, my arm hurts", pretty casually. I looked at it and my stomach jumped into my throat. It was plain by the "S" curve in his arm that it was broke. I picked him up and directed him to the chair to sit down.

Thats when I lost it. Not the crying, hysterical lost it, but the "I have completely lost my brain and what do I do now?" lost it. I started gathering shoes because I knew we had to go somewhere, I just did not know where yet. I picked up the phone and started going through the phone book, but who was I supposed to call? I called Brian and left a message, but of course it was the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! I called R.J. (my neighbor) and said something like "I am not thinking clearly, what do I do and where do I go?" She is such an angel, in a blink of an eye she was at my door and took Camden for the morning! (Thank you!!!!!) All while, Noah sat on the ottoman and calmly told me "Mommy, I think I need the Elmo ice pack now".

"Oh yeah, that's right, I need to do something with Noah." So in the car we went, off to the E.R. In the car, part of my brain came back to me and I started functioning better. Brian met us at the hospital and we were quickly taken back and Noah had an x-ray. He broke both bones at his wrist on his right arm. One of the broken bones was also sticking up. Not good! We were told that is usually requires surgery. The doc. said he would try to set it in 5 hours after they were sure his stomach was empty. So, the waiting began.

He was giving Tylenol with codeine and morphine, all designed to put him to sleep. Not my child, still wide awake and very alert. When the time came to set it, he was given two more drugs to knock him out. Not Noah, he stayed awake but was subdued. The doctor did his thing and did not think he was successful. After viewing a second x-ray, he was suprised to see that he did indeed move both bones back into place. He credits it to "devine intervention", I credit it to an awesome god!!!

Noah was released at 5:00 p.m. tonight. He is exhausted and confused. He is having a hard time understanding that he can continue to do things when he feels better, but only with one arm. He believes that he can't do anything at all because one arm is hurt. He feels like he is being left out of all the fun things and is very confused. We go see a specialist in a few days to see if surgery is needed. Please keep Noah in your prayers.

I am thankful for a god that performs miracles, for a god who heals, and for a god who protects. I am thankful for doctors who have the same faith that I do and who took such good care of my baby. I am thankful for wonderful family and friends who put their lives on hold to help us today. I am thankful for such a caring pastor that took time to visit us today.

Today was NOT boring!

Back in the saddle again

When I was elementary school age I loved to run. At recess while most of the kids played on the playground, I was racing anyone I could find in a foot race. My dad and I even raced a "marathon" together. I was pretty active when I was little. My days consisted of swimming, playing kick-ball, riding my bike, and roller skating everywhere. I would of loved to have those roller shoes that are out right now back then.

I'm not sure what happened after the 5th grade, but it changed. Exercise is the last thing that I want to do. I am one of those people who can work up quite a sweat and it is not a pretty sight! So, why do it? Also, the pain and physical exhaustion associated with it did not appeal to me.

Then, I hit 30. I got back into working out and felt great! (For those of you who have turned 30, you know what I mean, beacause everything starts falling apart.)

Then, I had kids... are you nuts, I don't even have time to go to the bathroom myself. How am I going to find time to work out?

With lots of encouragement from a good friend and guidance from my brother, I am back in the saddle again. I am fulfilling a New Year's resolution that I set for myself and I am glad to be doing it.

Since I have started back, I have so much energy and mentally I feel stronger. Did you know that the more that you walk the more it makes you want to run? O.k., maybe I'm just strange, but it does. Who knows maybe there is a 1/2 marathon in my future!

They say it's your birthday...

... and they were right. I turn 34 years old today. On the inside I still feel like a young'in, but on the outside I can tell I have aged. The year I turned 30 everything started to hurt, and each year since something else has been added to the list of pains. (See what you guys have to look forward to!)

I have always loved birthdays; mine, yours and even complete strangers celebrating in a restaurant. I love the excitement that I feel knowing it is a day to celebrate, I love the anticipation of cake and ice cream and of course, I love giving and receiving gifts! Since I have gotten older and had children, the emphasis has shifted from it being "all about me" to watching the joy of others celebrate their birthdays. I don't want big attention-getting celebrations but rather cherish the company of my family and a few close friends.

I will enjoy a nice dinner out with Brian's family this evening and will remember the wonderful evening Saturday night that I celebrated with my family. They served all of my favorites, lasagna, salad, garlic bread and of course, brownies and ice cream for dessert. It just doesn't get much better than that!

Thanks for making me feel so special on this special day!

Just a few accidents today...

1. Backed out of the drive-way this morning and I knocked over the neighbors trash can. (not the first, second or even sixth time) It wouldn't have been that bad except that ALL the trash fell out! YUCK!!! After cleaning up the mess and getting back in the car Noah politely tells me that "Hey mom, there is a trash can behind you." Duh!

2. You know a play date is going well when 2 of the 4 children end up with bloody lips. One of the victims was Noah and he cut his lip in the exact spot that he hurt it 3 weeks ago. Ouch! All of the booboos were accidents and the play date was actually a success. No one yelling in the restaurant today!

3. Did you know that Oxi Clean disguises just about every stain there is? I won't mention what I'm hiding, too much info.

Riding a bicycle

Noah has expressed an interest in having his training wheels taken off of his bicycle. I have no doubt that with a little bit of patience (on our part) and lots of practice, he will be riding a bike solo very soon.

I don't remember riding a bike solo at the age of 4. At what age do you remember riding a bike by yourself (minus training wheels)? Does anyone remember any tricks to learning this monumental task?

What's to come?

My 4 year old just ate 3 GIANT slices of pizza for dinner.

I am afraid of what's to come later on tonight! It can't be good!

Medieval Madness

The kids and I spent the morning at the Dallas Children's Museum. What fun we had. On Wednesday's during the summer they have a different theme, and todays theme was on the Medieval times. The kids had fun making a family "coat of arms" and a crown to wear on their head. Noah also enjoyed making a stained glass window out of tissue paper. They both enjoyed using glue sticks, markers and the always favorite GLITTER!!! I think we will be wearing glitter for at least the next week, it is everywhere!

They have a kids grocery store to shop in and a hospital to play in. Both boys loved driving the ambulance. We read several stories in a HUGE chair and planted herbs in their own pots to bring home and watch grow. The highlight of the morning though was watching Camden parading around in high-heeled princess shoes while wearing his crown and covered with glitter from head to toe!!! He was very proud of those shoes and threw quite a fit when he had to take them off.

After the museum we headed off for some lunch and ended with a ride on the carousel. It was very magical day!

I just thought this conversation was cute today.

Noah to Mommy: "Daddy's not home yet."
Mommy: "No, he is at jury duty"
Noah: "Yeah, he had to go to jail today."
Mommy: (laughing) "He's not at jail today"
Noah: "Yes he is, he told me last night that he had to go have a BIG TIME OUT!"

I won't argue with that!

Good news and Bad news

We've been busy enjoying the last few weeks Brian has off.

Thursday, I took the kids to the mall to play and ride the train. They also enjoyed going to the train store and playing with the train set. We also explored the Disney store, had lunch and came home.

Friday, we took the kids to Main Event to go bowling. The kids loved it! Of course, Brian scored the highest with Camden scoring 105 next. His first three frames were spares and he even had a strike. Way to go Camden!!!. Noah also did great, he tried out all the different colored balls and is really developing his swing! He also scored a strike and his final score was around 60 with the bumpers, while Sharon scored in the 50's without the bumpers!

Saturday, my parents came over and we took the kid to Planet Pizza. They loved riding the bumber cars, roller coaster, rocket ship planes and pirate ship. Sharon had the pleasure of accompaning Camden on several of the rides and quickly found out that she will not be going to Six Flags any time soon. The pirate ship ride had to be prematurely stopped to allow Sharon to get off before she got sick! I think her head may still be spinning today (Tuesday).

Monday was not a great day at our house. We found out that Whitney, our oldest dog, has tumors on her spleen that are a high probablitily of being cancerous. I knew this day would come but was not prepared for it none the less. I am confident that she will spend the rest of her life being loved and well cared for here at home.

Tuesday has just begun, I'll blog about our adventures later.

Hot Temperatures = Hot Tempers

For those of you readers not from Texas, this has been the week that we Texan's dread ever summer. Monday's high was 103, Tuesday's high was 107 and Wednesday's high looks to be around 106 degrees. There is some temporary relief in sight this coming weekend.

This week started out hot outside and inside our house. Tempers have flared at our house and the only thing I can seem to pinpoint as the problem is the rising mercury. I thought Monday would never end. Noah & Camden were constantatly antagonizing each other and trying their hardest to hurt each other every time I turned my back. Noah has 2 bite marks on him and Camden has several cuts and bruises to prove their love for one another. Brian came home Monday night to find me in the living room crying and emotionally spent.

Tuesday wasn't much better. We did change things up a bit and had two different sets of friends come over and play. I thought playing with friends would keep the peace. However, lunch out proved to be a nightmare. It ended with a man in the restaurant yelling at Camden to "Shut-up the crying", not once but twice! This guy was literally on the other side of the restaurant shouting across all the patrons. He is really lucky that I have never taken karate!!!

Wednesday, just like the previous two days started off with time-outs for both kids at 6:45 a.m. I had not even made it out of bed before the fighting started. It is never good to hear a "SMACK" followed by a "Did that hurt?" and then followed by another "SMACK".

So far, it has proven to be a little better today. We ventured out with several families to see "Curious George" at the movies and then off to lunch at Chik-Fi-La with at least 50 other people. What fun!!! The boys did have a great time playing on the equipment with their friends and I am enjoying the calm (as they take naps) before the next storm.

We are in need of lots of prayer, rain and cooler temps!

Keller's, an institution!

A week or so ago, I blogged about the best fried chicken in Dallas. Today, I am going to tell you about the best hamburger, hands down, in Big D.

We ventured out of our comfort zone Friday night and drove down to Northwest Hwy and Abrams to the famous Keller's Drive-In.

Keller's has been around since the 1950's and is famous for beer and burgers. You flash your lights to let the carhop know you are ready to order. After ordering, you sit back and people watch.

It's a seedy little place that has you looking over your shoulder, but what you will find is usually pretty entertaining. There are always men on their motorcycles drinking a cold one. I personally enjoy watching the waitresses slide across the restaurant from all the grease on the floor. Typically, you will see 2 or 3 old classic cars as well. Brian even saw a carhop that has been working there since he was in elementary school.

The burgers are served on a bun that is loaded with poppy seeds. (Don't take a drug test after this meal). The burgers are greasy and loaded with toppings. They have the best tater-tots with cheese as well as onion rings. After eating at Keller's, you feel like you have taken a bath in grease! It's the BEST!!!

Check it out sometime, you won't be sorry.

"Mommy, you are not allowed to sit in my chair... EVER!!"

Noah spoke these words after walking into the kitchen and finding me in a heap on the floor.

Yes... I sat in his chair, breaking it into 5 unfixable pieces.

A more subtle situation would have been nicer to tell me that I need to lose weight.

Oh well.

Gracie Dog - Gotta love her!

I have to give her credit... she knows what she likes.

She passed up the white bread, wheat bread and bananas and went straight for the white powdered sugar donut. (Which was not an easy task, she had to open a plastic container.)

I thought she was prematurely grey in her muzzle, it really was powdered sugar.

A rainy day = Bubba's and Boat racing

If you haven't been to Bubba's, down in Snider Plaza in University Park, you are missin out on some heavenly chicken!!!! Brian's Aunt Tish treated us to a chicken tender lunch with all the fixins today and I don't want to put anything else in my mouth for a long time. I want to savor the taste of the chicken and mashed potatoes forever. It truly is the best chicken on this planet.

The rain settled in today and I am not complaining because it is much needed. I only hope there is more to come because everything is so dry.

About 4 p.m. though, boredom set in at our house and Brian decided a boat race was in order. At first I was the pessimist and thought this "is dumb". We all put on our rain coats and headed outside to the alley with our "bottle" boats. I brought the flag and when the flag dropped the race was on. The boats floated really well down the alley. They encountered some obstacles (acorns, rocks, etc.) but the kids had fun cheering on their boat to the finish line. The big winner was Noah, followed by daddy with a close second, Mommy came in third and Camden brought up the rear. The rain tapered off and we all headed inside. I have to admit, it was a blast.

With a lull in the rain, Brian went to work on the boats to make them sleek and fast. Currently we have Noah's boat a.k.a. "The shark fin", Sharon's boat, a.k.a. "The original speed boat", Brian's boat, a.k.a. "The pickle fork" and Camden's boat, a.k.a. "The Low-Rider". We also have two "unsponsored" boats that we are currently recruiting drivers for. Brian checked the rain forcast for this evening and the next boat race has been postponed due to "no rain".

Stay tuned.

Car Surfing... a new extreme sport?!?!

That's right folks, Sharon is doing her best to find a new sport for the X-Games. She has tried skim-boarding and now she has tried car-surfing. Luckily, no injuries were incurred while car-surfing.

It's really not as exciting as it sounds, but it was a whole lot of fun!

We spent Monday evening at my parent's house where we set up our tent down by the lake. Everyone helped "pitch" the tent and Camden did his best to put as much dirt on his body as possible. First stop, the fire pit where he fell into. (Not burning, of course)

About an hour later, the Park Ranger came by and told us we could not camp overnight on the property so we had the daunting task of moving the tent and 2-air mattresses up the hill to my parent's land with a 2 & 4 year old in tow. I might mention at this point, that the wind had picked up quite a bit!!!

We drove the Tahoe down to the site and loaded the sheets, pillows, fans, lanterns, etc. into the back of the car. Brian and I then wresteled a queen-size-double-stacked mattress onto the top of the SUV. It was tied loosely to the top of the vehicle and it was then decided that I would ride on the back of the bumper holding down the mattress.

Good news to report, the mattress did not "fly" away and nobody was injured during this "sport". It was a whole lot of fun though!

Next the four of us had to carry the 24 x 10 tent up the hill. No easy task, but it was accomplished. Noah led the way singing "what's going to work? Teamwork". Camden brought up the rear touching everything green that we told him not to touch. He also sang the "teamwork" song. More good news to report, no poisin ivy on Camden... Halleluia!

Camden then found the dirt on my parents screened porch. After pressing his face against the screen he was pretty well covered. So, off to the tub for a bath. Taking a bath in my parent's tub proved to be quite a challenge for Camden. They have a jacuzzi tub that is very deep. Camden thought that the back of the tub was a slide and kept trying to slide down the tub. Maybe we just found another new X-Games sport.

Camping was fun. We had a great breeze which made it pretty cold by 2 a.m. No animal sightings... that is always good as well.

Tuesday morning, my parents invited their neighbors over for a "get to know one another breakfast" that was a success. The food was awesome and it was great to meet each of their neighbors.

We headed home and all had a 3 hour nap. We are now ready to go watch the fireworks. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Independence Day!!!
